9430 dc sump water level

Just bought the 9430 dc. Iím running it in a sump that is rather deep in the skimmer compartment. More specifically, the water level is above the top of the output pipe on the skimmer (top of outlet pipe is about 1cm below the water level). It seems to be running fine, but wanted to confirm that this wonít have any negative impacts on overall performance. Should I raise the skimmer so it isn't sitting so deep in the water?

This would have the same effect as a taller pipe and makes it more likely to foam over, with the DC version you can compensate a bit by turning the pump down. It would be best to raise the skimmer.

Hi Roger,

I'm awaiting the arrival of my 9430 DC , My skimmer compartment goes to 25cm before it overflows to the next stage. Will i need to raise the skimmer.

Thanks

You will want a depth of 10-20 cm, I would target approx 15cm but the lower you get it the higher speed you will be able to run on the pump which will give more aeration and benefit the pH.

Hi Roger.

Will it make a difference in which chamber in my sump i install my 9430 DC.
The previous skimmer was installed in chamber 1 where the tank outlet is. If i install the skimmer here its going to be a very tight fit and i will not be able to reach the sock of the outlet pipe.
Chamber 2 has Matrix.
Chamber 3 very small has the heaters.
Chamber 4 is of the ideal heigh and very large. This used to be the sandbed / refugium area.
Chamber 5 houses the recirc pump.

Can i install after matrix in chamber 4

In general the recommendation is that skimming is first to remove as much as possible before biological filtration. I am not sure it would make a huge difference but that is the general rule of thumb.

You might check on Youtube but I don't know of any. A lot of times a blogger has made one.
